ganger. scottish 90s indie rock. minimal vocals. the guitar styles on this album make me miss my axe.

heavy vegetable. with guitarist/lead singer rob crow from pinback.

the bats-a new england band formed in 1982. this song is from an album released in 2005 "at the national grid". they are still making music. contributors to the "dunedin sound" movement of lo-fi indie rock bands coming from a new zealand college town by the same name in the early 80s. bailterspace, from one of my earlier posts, is another of these bands. disregard the video on this first song, just look away.

i write to you now having just removed my notebook from the microwave oven in my bathroom which doubles as a kitchen, where i hid it from my delirious ex fiance after discovering she had broken into my house and spit gum into my copy of the grapes of wrath given me by my ex girlfriend as a christmas present, with no enscription.

i recall fondly the box, the crinkling paper. "you should read that book" she had said to me in the bookstore a month earlier as i flipped through the pages of a paperback copy. why did she want me to have this book in particular? after the engagement fell through i found myself wine drunk at a party rolling over my glasses and writhing on the wooden floors when i looked up to see little miss grapes, looking down at me.
no words were exchanged and other than trying to steal a batavus from the driveway after everyone had passed out, this was the only moment i can recall from this night with some clarity. her just looking down at me on the floor, i suspect that she could perceive my sadness and i felt her reflect some of it back to me. my heart so broken and so in love with her as to keep quiet, and still, with all that wine boiling my liver.

and when she was gone i gushed. one segment of my bracelet came loose sending all the other segments after it, each displaying the image of a saint. my glasses came to be underneath me and one lens on this side of the room and another on the other side. i drank more wine last night, standing on the arm of a red velvet couch watching some bands from tennessee in some living room, on some street, pouring sweat because it's june now and i'm almost off supervision.
And last week i recall fondly our past time, on memorial day early and with the sun pulling everyones shirts off over their heads, and everyones girlfriend in bikinis , on blankets, and the dog playing in the yard. eating asparagus from the firepit, and when the rain came we huddled under a tiny strip that led from the backdoor to the garage where we had pulled our motorbikes out of the rain. I put on my sunglasses and took acid and waited all day to escape.
And tonight i went to a sweet young girls engagement party, with a bunch of strangers, where i ate most notably meat balls and pickled okrah. i left there on my motorbike in the rain which is typical of summer evenings here and with a strip of acid under my tongue.

I write to you now because i cannot sleep and the walls are still breathing as the sun peaks.
there's not a lot of time left until the next thing happens, and the next thing and the thing after that.
I have a small pile of money which gets smaller and smaller. i just hope by 35 to outdo all the 25 year old children like myself. seems like everything is about to bust. little record stores, the motorbikes, all the bands are falling apart. geoff and i and our refusal to seek gainful employment. I'm scratching the walls in a painfully silent studio again as tonight becomes tomorrow and so on and so on and so on and so on. who is that? what does that smell like? what the heck? so many questions left unanswered. i creamed my shit at a spits show and all i have to show for it is this lousy scion hat/internet thing.
